This wonderfully preserved farm in the hamlet of Northville (Town of Riverhead) represents a typical North Fork farm from 1880 - 1910. During this period, Northville was an important farming community supplying New York City and other markets with produce shipped by rail and sea. Today, Hallockville preserves the atmosphere of a bygone era through the surviving original buildings and artifacts and through the Museum's many public programs and educational activities.

Among seven Historical Structures are

  • The Shoemaker's Shop
  • The Milkhouse, where Hallock women processed and stored dairy products
  • The Smokehouse, which preserved the Hallock family's meat and fish with smoke piped into it from a smoldering fire in an outside pit
  • The Workshop and Woodshed
  • The Hallock Homestead, the core of which was built around 1765. It contains its original 19th century carpeting and exhibits many original artifacts and furnishings in period rooms typical of a North Fork farmhouse.

This is a nice place for a family outing, and a full day School Program satisfies numerous objectives of 4th through 7th grade curricula. It includes many hands-on activities, observational, and problem-solving exercises, crafts, and games.
